WEYBURN - The Weyburn Police Service responded to 68 calls for service during the period of April 15 to 21, resulting in a total of 20 charges. Of the charges, nine were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, 10 under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), and one under the Tobacco Tax Act. Of the criminal charges, three were in relation to individuals who either failed to comply with a condition of their release or to attend court as required to do so.
Between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning, a resident reported a suspicious male wearing camouflage clothing with a backpack, who was riding a bike while holding another bike. Officers on patrol spotted the suspicious male with the bikes in a back alley, but the individual dumped the bikes and fled on foot immediately upon noticing the police vehicle.
Further patrols for the suspect were unsuccessful. One of the bikes has been reclaimed by its rightful owner while the other bike remains unclaimed with the Weyburn Police Service. Anyone missing a bike, or any type of property whether lost or stolen, is encouraged to contact the Weyburn Police Service to see if it has been turned in or being held by the WPS for any reason.
On Monday evening, officers responded to a report of an individual who appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel in a parked vehicle outside of a local establishment. Officers located the vehicle and found two individuals sitting in the backseat with the driver’s seat tilted forward against the steering wheel. One of the individuals had an outstanding warrant for their arrest and was arrested and released as requested by the agency holding the warrant.
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, officers were notified of a vehicle registered to a Weyburn address that had just evaded an officer with the Regina Police Service who attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Officers kept an eye out for it during patrol and later located it at a location near the outskirts of Weyburn. The vehicle was towed and held for further investigation at the request of the Regina Police Service.
Also on Tuesday, officers responded to a reported theft that just occurred at a local store. A description of the suspect was provided and responding officers were able to locate the individual immediately nearby the store. Further investigation resulted in an adult male being charged with several offences including theft, possession of illegal tobacco, and failing to comply with a condition of his release.
On Saturday afternoon, officers responded to a reported domestic dispute in a store parking lot. Officers were able to mediate the situation and both parties went their separate ways without further altercation.
