REGINA – What began as a complaint of a group of teens being rowdy in a business turned into a 15 year old facing a handful of firearms charges recently.
Police were called to a location on 11th Avenue on Dec. 18 after the caller finally had enough of their shenanigans.
“The complainant indicated that a group of teens was inside the business throwing items and engaging in behaviour that was described as harassing the customers,” said RPS in a media release. “The caller indicated this sort of behaviour had been happening throughout the week.”
The group had left before police arrived on the scene, but one male youth matching a provided description was located.
“Police received information, including clothing description of one teen who was observed running from the nearby alley after what sounded like a gunshot,” RPS said.
A search of the youth yielded a sawed-off semi-automatic .22 calibre rifle, and with further investigation, another teen was charged in connection with the incident.
The youth - who cannot be named under the Youth Justice Act - was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm; two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to probation; possession of a prohibited firearm; and breach of probation.
The youth made his first court appearance on these charges on Dec. 19.
