Unity’s husband and wife duo, Brian and Theresa Witzaney, attending Vermilion College each received a bursary for being top in their respective classes. Brian was in his final year of interior design technology and Theresa was taking secretarial training.
Luseland and Kerrobert’s first baby of 1975 was Jason Christopher, son of Alan and Betty Huck of Luseland, born in Kerrobert Hospital Jan. 3.
The Wilkie Midgets remained undefeated in the Highway 14 Midget League with a win over Rosetown where goaltender Ross Hofer had a shutout and Melvin Schille led the scoring.
Trophies were handed out to the winners of Wilkie’s light-up contest, organized by the chamber of commerce. The Fred Wangler residence was named best decorated home with the John Fenrich residence as runner-up.

Local bar and hotel owners expressed disdain for the new no-smoking laws, having seen their revenues decline significantly since the change banning smoking in their establishments came into effect Jan. 1. Colleen Bischoff, owner of the Denzil Hotel, predicted she’d “likely be bankrupt” in three months.
Unity Public School organized a “money line of coins” fundraiser in their gym to benefit the victims of the tsunami disaster in southern Asia, where the death toll had topped 150,000 people. Community members and local businesses pitched in and nearly $9,000 was raised.
The Town of Wilkie hired a firm to conduct an evaluation of the cost to convert the swimming pool to solar energy.
