SWEETGRASS - An outbreak of COVID-19 on Sweetgrass First Nation declared last month appears to be getting under control, although there are still several active cases on the reserve.
According to their Oct. 8 update there were 10 active cases reported in the community.
This is down from a peak of 24 cases Sept. 16. There was also only one new case reported Oct. 8.
The reserve had been able to get numbers down to as low as four active cases Sept. 29, so cases are again on an upward trend in recent days.
The outbreak on Sweetgrass was declared by Indigenous Services Canada Sept. 15.
Since then, COVID-19 testing clinics have set up on the reserve on various dates. Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs had set up a rapid testing and vaccine mobile clinic on Sweetgrass Sept. 27.
On a related note, flu shots are now available on the reserve. Battle River Treaty 6 Health will be providing flu shots at the Old Hall from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day on Oct. 12, 13 and 14.
