KidSport Unity once again benefits from Nutrien partnership

Unity's KidSport funding got a boost April 24 when a noon barbecue was hosted by Nutrien Unity as well as a town wide blitz selling lawn fertilizer with all proceeds earmarked for the community charity.

UNITY —  In their efforts to support children in Unity by helping fund registration and fees for all kids to play, Unity KidSport committee and volunteers partnered with Nutrien Unity, to host a barbecue April 24.

In 2022, Unity KidSport was able to sponsor 48 individual grants totalling $9,119.

The small committee appreciates the generosity of residents who make individual donations, group or organization donations or have donations earmarked for the Unity charity in memorial donations or as another component to their staff or business events.

Nutrien has been a big supporter of KidSport Unity initiatives with both their ice melt program and lawn fertilizers.

April 24, Nutrien and KidSport staff braved the cold temperatures to cook up a barbecue. Purchasers of a bag of lawn fertilizer earned a free burger and drink.  Proceeds from the barbecue were also earmarked for the event. Volunteers canvassed the town later that evening selling the product with all proceeds going to KidSport Unity.

Unity's KidSport program is funded by donations and fundraising efforts. The committee says the collaborative efforts of their committee, community volunteers and ongoing support such as the barbecue event and fertilizer sales spearheaded by Nutrien goes a long way to help kids participate in sports and activity in the community that they may otherwise be unable to afford.

Grants are provided to kids ages five to 18 years to play a season of sport, as no one wants to see kids sit on the sidelines.

Donations can also be made online at  or dropped off with any committee member that includes Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Feser.
