REGINA — Regina police have arrested and charged a man allegedly connected to four recent thefts at storage compounds in the city, after he was stopped for a vehicle infraction on Sunday.
A 30-year-old man from Regina was stopped by police early in the morning on Jan. 16 while driving a black truck, after officers observed him exceeding the speed limit and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Police followed the vehicle into a parking lot on the 3400 block of Big Bear Boulevard where it reportedly got stuck in snow, and a male exited the vehicle and fled.
With the assistance of the canine team, the man identified to be the suspct was later arrested due to the incident as well as an outstanding warrant.
Investigation further identified the vehicle the suspect was driving at the time of his arrest as being linked to several break and enter crimes that took place the week prior.
He has been identified as a suspect in the thefts, which began on Jan. 13 at a compound on the 600 block of Adams Street, followed by thefts under similar circumstances on Jan. 14 at the 400 block of Winnipeg Street and on Jan. 15 at the100 block of Henderson Drive and later at the 1100 block of Weaver Street.
Several large items were reported stolen during the incidents, including an ATV, a trailer, a heater and a second enclosed trailer, among other items.
The enclosed trailer was later found abandoned, but police did not provide details on whether the other items have been recovered.
The accused has been charged with one count of dangerous driving and breach of conditions of a release order, and four counts of breaking and entering and committing a theft.
He made his first appearance in provincial court on these charges on Jan. 17.
