WEYBURN – A number of events and activities will be held at the Weyburn Public Library in October, including the fall book sale, a concert and pumpkin carving.
Donations of books are being taken now for the book sale, which will be held from Thursday to Saturday, Oct. 19 to 21.
New this year will be a spinning wheel for prizes at the sales table, and for $2 a spin you could win a prize.
An opportunity for teens to volunteer is available, as they need help setting up for the book sale on Wednesday, Oct. 18, and cleaning up after the sale on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m.
The library will have a week of theme days for those who like dressing up. From Oct. 16 to 20, you can stop by the library or post a picture on the library’s social media dressed in the day’s theme to win a prize.
The theme on Monday is “Monster Mash”, followed by “Totally Tuesday”, with an 80s theme for clothes; “Wacky Wednesday” lets you show your wackiest hair or clothes; “PJ Thursday” encourages you to wear PJs to work, school or the library; and for “Sports Fan Friday”, you can show off your favourite team jersey.
Weyburn musician Dan Cugnet will perform a concert at the library on Monday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
Families can sign up for pumpkin carving, to be held on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6-8 p.m. The library will provide one pumpkin per household, and families can sign up either for 6-7 p.m. or 7-8 p.m., and the deadline to sign up is Friday, Oct. 20.
There will be a Halloween Buddies night on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m., where participants can create a wood block of your favourite Halloween character, such as a mummy, Frankenstein, vampire and so on.
There will be programs for children aged six to eight, and nine to 12 years. For the younger age group, they can draw or doodle a zentangle pumpkin on Tuesday, Oct. 10; learn to play ultimate football and Frisbee on Tuesday, Oct. 17, or learn how to cook spaghetti and sweet-and-sour meat sauce on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 4 p.m. on all dates.
For the tween age group, there is a baking activity on Thursday, Oct. 5 to make chocolate pudding cream tarts; a class in doodles and desserts will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12, where they draw one-point perspective; learn to play ultimate football and Frisbee on Monday, Oct. 16; learn how to cook spaghetti and sweet-and-sour meat sauce on Monday, Oct. 23; and take part in a book club on Monday, Oct. 30, where they will talk about the book, “Inkling” by Kenneth Oppel.
An adults book club will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12, to discuss the book, Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz, and for November, they will discuss the book, The Atomic City Girls, by Janet Beard. This book will be available after Oct. 12.
A fall mixology class will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26, where Elizabeth Livingstone will share some fun fall drink recipes.
