We鈥檝e been hearing about this for a while, and this month, it was time to do something about it. Almost every service rig company we鈥檝e spoken to in the province could use a few more hands.

Calgary 鈥� While the name of the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors seems to imply just drilling rigs, it does, in fact, include the service rig side of the business.

Oxbow 鈥� Driving past Red Hawk Well Servicing Inc.鈥檚 Oxbow location, you can鈥檛 miss the help wanted billboard along the highway. And that鈥檚 kind of the point. 鈥淲e鈥檝e been trying to hire. That sign鈥檚 been there for a year.

Weyburn 鈥� Bruce Miller鈥檚 company, Miller Well Servicing of Weyburn, is part of a consistent trend of service rig companies that could, at times, use just a few more hands. When asked if they were looking for workers, Miller said on Oct. 30, 鈥淲e were.

Oxbow 鈥� Oxbow-based service rig company Mayco Well Servicing is experiencing the same trend most of their compatriots are 鈥� they could use a few more hands, but not necessarily at all times. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 exactly it.

Estevan 鈥� After a trial run last year, a full-fledged 鈥渟chool鈥� was held in Estevan on Nov. 27, an event referred to as a 鈥淒ay of Measurement.

When there鈥檚 a press conference between multiple leaders of equivalent rank, it鈥檚 a good bet the person who makes the initial announcement and does most of the talking is probably the leader.
