WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service received 66 calls for service during the period of March 4 to 10, with 22 charges laid during this period – the majority related to Criminal Code Offences.
Weyburn police responded to a home invasion in the early morning hours on March 9. The suspect fled prior to police arrival. Police found a victim suffering from injuries and was transported to Weyburn General Hospital by EMS. Through police investigation, a suspect was identified and later arrested.
The suspect is facing numerous charges including break-and-enter to a residence with intent, aggravated assault, numerous weapon charges, using a disguise during the commission of an offence, mischief, and numerous breaches of a release order. The suspect was remanded in custody. This was not a random act of violence by an unknown suspect, as the suspect was known to the victim.
Police received a Report Impaired Drivers (RID) complaint just after midnight on March 10. The suspect vehicle was located, and police administered a roadside alcohol screening in which the driver failed. At the conclusion of breath samples, the driver was subsequently charged with impaired driving and driving with blood alcohol content equal to or greater than 80mg.
Also on March 10, Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. Two passengers in the vehicle were found to be in breach of their conditions of release (curfew) and were subsequently arrested and charged. They both were released for a future court date.
