Assault and firearm confrontation reported downtown Saskatoon

SASKATOON - The Saskatoon Police Service Serious Assault Unit is investigating an assault that occurred downtown yesterday. According to police, on April 12, around 5:30 p.m., several reports were received of two large groups of youth engaged in a verbal confrontation in the area of 20th Street West near 3rd and 4th Avenue South. It was reported that one or more firearms may have been pointed between the two groups.

Following the confrontation, both groups fled the area. A bystander who had been recording the incident was physically assaulted by some of the fleeing suspects. The 18-year-old man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Subsequent investigation led police to locate a discarded imitation firearm nearby and arresting one of the involved suspects. The 25-year-old man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are expected. Investigators are requesting anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or any person or business with video evidence, to come forward and assist with the investigation.
