Couple arrested for break and enter in Pennant, Sask.

Suspects were armed and wearing masks, police say.

SWIFT CURRENT – Two Kyle, Sask. residents are facing charges after a break and enter to a home in Pennant, Sask.

Swift Current RCMP responded to the call of a break and enter on the 200 block of Standard Street in Pennant, just before 10 a.m. on Feb. 22.

“Initial information gathered by police indicated a male and female suspect entered the residence and were believed to be armed with a firearm and a knife,” said RCMP in a media release. “There was only one occupant in the residence at the time of the incident, who did not report any injuries to police.”

RCMP were able to determine possible identities of the suspects through their investigate, and details about the vehicle they left the scene in.

Just after noon that same day, police issued an Everbridge advisory to let community members know about the incident and details on the vehicle for the purposes of public safety.

“Further information gathered by police determined the female suspect was seen at a local trailer park,” RCMP said. “Additional officers from the Saskatchewan RCMP Trafficking Response Team, Swift Current Municipal RCMP and RCMP Traffic Services, were called to assist and secured a perimeter around the area.”

The two suspects were arrested without incident and taken into custody.

“A search of a nearby residence resulted in officers locating and seizing stolen property, a shotgun, a knife, and disguises – all involved in the original break and enter report,” RCMP said.

The vehicle used in the break and enter was found on the Northill Road in Swift Current, also seized by police.

Ashley Decoste, 37, and Joseph Denis, 50, were both charged with break and enter with a firearm, intent to commit an indictable offence while masked, use of a firearm to commit robbery, and carry a weapon to commit an offence.

Denis was further charged with four firearms related offences in relation to the investigation.

The pair are scheduled to appear in court by video on March 1.

Police are continuing their investigation into this matter.
