PRINCE ALBERT – Four Montreal Lake Cree Nation residents face numerous charges stemming from the dangerous person alert issued earlier this month on Montreal Lake Cree Nation.
Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP have charged Justice Bird, 29, Ben Bird, 22, Lloyd Bird, 28, and Deon Smith, 27, with attempted murder, robbery with a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of firearms when unauthorized. The four also separately face additional firearms-related offences.
Deon Smith appears in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Oct. 30 and Justice Bird appears on Oct. 25. Ben Bird and Lloyd Bird appeared in court on Oct. 23.
Police had issued a dangerous person alert on Oct. 12 after Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP received a report of shots fired outside a home on Montreal Lake Cree Nation. When RCMP responded, they found an injured man they say was in an altercation with two other men. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The next day, two suspects were arrested at a home north of Montreal Lake.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert General Investigation Section, Prince Albert Forensic Identification Services, La Ronge and Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Teams, Prince Albert Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team and Police Dog Services assisted Montreal Lake RCMP in the investigation.
