PRINCE ALBERT – Four men from Montreal Lake Cree Nation that prompted a dangerous persons alert about four months ago remain behind bars.
Ben Romeo Bird, 22, Lloyd Alphius Bird, 28, and Deon Samuel Smith, 27, had appearances in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Feb. 23. Justice Jay Bird, 29, appeared on Feb. 22. All three of the Birds were remanded in custody until their next court appearance later this month. Smith has been denied bail and a warrant of committal issued.
All four are charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, discharging a firearm with intent, aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of firearms when unauthorized.
The charges stem from an incident on Oct. 12, 2023. Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP had received a report of shots fired outside a home on Montreal Lake Cree Nation. When RCMP responded, they found an injured man they say was in an altercation with two other men. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
