MEADOW LAKE – Officers from RCMP Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team (CRT) charged a 31-year-old man with weapons and firearms offences while conducting proactive patrols in Meadow Lake on Feb. 27.
During a traffic stop, they seized about 10 grams of methamphetamine, 13 pharmaceutical-style pills, a machete and trafficking paraphernalia from the vehicle.
Morgan Dunsmore from Flying Dust First Nation was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He appears in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on April 15.
In another incident on Feb. 27, officers from RCMP Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team CRT made arrests on Waterhen Lake First Nation.
Meadow Lake RCMP had received a complaint that an individual was threatened by a firearm on Waterhen Lake First Nation. The police investigation determined an altercation occurred between two men and one of them threatened the other with a firearm. The victim was able to escape and didn't report physical injuries to police.
Meadow Lake RCMP charged 25-year-old Christopher Ernest from Meadow Lake with pointing a firearm and four other weapons-related offences. A warrant was issued for his arrest. Investigators determined he was also wanted by Correctional Service Canada for breaching his statutory release.
On March 1, police determined Ernest was in a home in Beauval. RCMP CRT officers attended the residence and arrested Ernest. They also arrested a woman who was wanted by Beauval RCMP for theft of a sports utility vehicle in relation to a July 2023 incident.
During the investigation, RCMP CRT officers seized a loaded firearm, ammunition, approximately 28 grams of cocaine and trafficking paraphernalia at the home.
Christopher Ernest and 25-year-old Gina Roy from Beauval are each charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.
Ernest was additionally charged with three counts of possession of a firearm/ammunition while prohibited, two counts of failing to comply with release order conditions, and being unlawfully at large.
They were also arrested on their outstanding warrants.
Ernest and Roy were remanded in custody until their appearance in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on March 4.
