Construction company fined after worker falls, seriously injured

Song’s Construction Ltd. pleaded guilty in Saskatoon Provincial Court March 29 to violating the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.

SASKATOON – A construction company has been fined $24,000 in Saskatoon Provincial Court after a worker suffered serious injuries on June 14, 2021, in Saskatoon. A worker had fallen from a work foundation wall.

Song’s Construction Ltd. pleaded guilty March 29 to violating the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and failing to provide information, instruction, training and supervision necessary to protect the health and safety of workers that resulted in the serious injury to a worker.

Song’s Construction Ltd was fined $17,142.86 with a $6,857.14 surcharge, for a total amount of $24,000.

Employers are required to provide safe and healthy workplaces, and must provide information, training and experience necessary for employees to perform their jobs safely. The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety works with employers and workers to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses through education, inspections and prosecutions.
