Class is back in session

Another school year has begun as students across the province headed back to class Sept. 5.

UNITY -- Motorists were reminded for several days to exercise caution in school zones staring Sept. 5 as students headed back to class, and buses are now part of daily traffic.

Living Sky School Division had been sharing posts prior to the official start date of students showcasing how they will demonstrate the theme of "The Key to unlocking a great school year", with several students feeling that their key is in making new friends.

In continued efforts to pay it forward, staff from St. Peter's School in Unity spent time performing cleaning efforts in a team power hour at Parkview Place senior assisted living facility.

All Unity schools are also promoting their welcome week activities with St. Peter's holding a welcome back barbecue on Sept. 7.for school families.

At Unity Composite High School, the start of school also means a jump back into high school sports as Warrior football has already begun practises and Warrior volleyball and cross-country activity will soon begin.

LSKYSD has launched its new SkyPlus Blended Learning program for students in the division, outlined in an Aug. 22 story on SASKTODAY.ca.

There will be a new principal and vice-principal at McLurg High School in Wilkie as Jim Shevchuk takes over the role formerly held by Greg Mamer. Kristen Nett will serve as vice-principal, coming to McLurg from UCHS where she taught.

Community residents say they, too, get excited when school resumes as the energy and activity returns to the atmosphere.
