Dance recital and competition season kicks off with SODC Showcase

Dancers with Stand Out Dance Collective showcase their routines before competition season.

UNITY - Stand Out Dance Collective held their third annual Showcase of solos, duets and trios on the stage in the senior gym at Unity Composite High School, March 16. SODC dancers’ next appearance on stage was March 19 in Saskatoon at the first competition of the season.

The Showcase included hip hop, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, acro and ballet numbers, danced to a vast variety of music, including such classics as Beat It by Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me to the Moon.

Colourful and creative costuming added to the visual appeal of the dancers’ – and their choreographers’ – interpretations of each number.

Six dancers performed their very first solos – Oaklyn Salewski, Katelyn Walz, Londyn Kelly, Quinleigh Robertson, Emily Melnyk and Kaysen Shirley.

To conclude the afternoon, SODC awarded three dance parents with special prizes and five dancers with $50 scholarships for either summer dance camp or towards next year’s performances. The routine winning SODC’s grand prize of $250 to be used for a solo, duet or trio next dance year was Lollipop, a tap number performed by sisters Sophie and Lucy Stubbs.
