Home invasion and gunfire reported on Nikik Road in La Ronge

Three males wearing masks had forcibly entered the house, with one of them armed with a firearm.

The La Ronge RCMP are working to locate the male occupant of the home who was involved in the exchange of gunfire.

LA RONGE -  A home invasion and exchange of gunfire occurred in La Ronge Wednesday morning. The incident happened at around 8 a.m. on the 100th block of Nikik Road. Two reports were received by the La Ronge RCMP.

When officers arrived, they secured the home and found three people inside. Their investigation revealed that three males wearing masks had forcibly entered the house, with one of them armed with a firearm. They searched for another male occupant and exchanged gunfire when they found him. One of the masked males was injured in the exchange of gunfire while the male occupant fled the scene. The three masked males left the scene in a white Nissan Rogue.

The authorities located the vehicle at a hospital in the community and seized a loaded shotgun from it. Further investigation led to the identification of the three masked males. Two individuals, 23-year-old Tyrell Dumais and 38-year-old Cody McKenzie, both from La Ronge area, have been arrested and charged with several offences, including break and enter to commit an indictable offence, use of a firearm while committing an indictable offence, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, using a firearm during a robbery, wearing a disguise with intent, pointing a firearm, removing a serial number from a firearm, and using a firearm in a careless manner.

Dumais was released on an undertaking. McKenzie faces an additional charge of possession of a weapon while prohibited. He has been remanded for court and is scheduled to appear on April 14 in La Ronge.

The La Ronge RCMP are working to locate the male occupant of the home who was involved in the exchange of gunfire.
