Shellbrook RCMP search for suspect in armed car jacking

A man has been arrested and police are seeking the female who was with him.

SHELLBROOK – Police are searching for a suspect after an armed robbery on Service Road in Shellbrook at about 6 p.m. on June 22.

Neil Michel, 34, from Pelican Narrows has been arrested and police are seeking the female who was with him. Police didn’t provide an estimated age range for the female.

The investigation by Ahtahkakoop/Shellbrook RCMP determined a man and a female approached an occupied parked pick-up truck and got in. The man pointed a firearm at the driver, who exited the vehicle. The man and female then drove away in it. The driver did not report physical injuries to police.

Ahthakakoop/Shellbrook RCMP immediately responded and began looking for the vehicle. Shortly after, officers from Big River RCMP located it travelling on Highway 55 near Canwood. The officers activated their emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop. The truck didn’t stop and continued into Debden. The man then got out of the truck and tried to flee on foot but was arrested without incident a short time later.

Officers located and seized an air gun from the truck.

Michel is charged with robbery with firearm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, failing to comply with an undertaking condition, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and carry a concealed weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on June 26.

The female wasn't located. Investigators continue working to identify her. She has dark hair and was last seen wearing sunglasses, a plaid top or jacket, dark pants and light-coloured shoes.

If you recognize her, or have information about this incident, contact Ahtahkakoop/Shellbrook RCMP at 306-468-2969. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or .
