SWIFT CURRENT — A woman who was on the way to hospital in Swift Current died on the way Sunday.
On May 5 at approximately 11:05 a.m., Swift Current RCMP received a request to conduct a wellness check on South Service Road in Swift Current.
Officers responded immediately and located an adult female, whom they determined required medical care. She was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act.
EMS was engaged to transport her to the hospital for medical care. On the way to the hospital, the female went into medical distress. She was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. Her family has been notified.
As required by The Police Act, 1990, Saskatchewan RCMP notified the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT). SIRT will investigate the Saskatchewan RCMP’s interaction with the deceased and the circumstances of her death.
A release Sunday said the Saskatchewan RCMP is disclosing this as part of their ongoing commitment to transparency.
During the incident, Saskatchewan RCMP advised the public there was an increased police presence on South Service Road and Saskatchewan Drive in relation to an ongoing investigation. People were asked to avoid the areas where officers were present and to follow any police direction provided.
